Church Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 1 Wounded And 1 In Custody

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – Two people are dead and one wounded following a shooting at a church in a Birmingham suburb. Police have one suspect in custody and say that there is no further threat to the community.

The Vestavia Hills Police Department received a 911 call at 6:22 p.m. Thursday with the caller reporting an active shooter at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Following the shooting, VHPD Captain Shane Ware spoke to the media, but did not mention any possible motive, nor did he disclose any further details about the incident or the victims other than to confirm that one victim died and two were transported to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect was not named, nor did Captain Ware provide any details regarding the suspect’s arrest. According to the church’s website, a potluck dinner was scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening.
