5 People Shot Outside Anti-Violence Nonprofit Building

Published

A group of people were on a sidewalk when a vehicle drove up and three gunman got out, opening fire on the group. It happened outside a nonprofit called Target Area DevCorp, which is a non-violence group in Chicago.

The woman, 27, was struck in the hip and a 40-year-old man was shot in the face. He remains in critical condition. A 32-year-old man was struck in the lower back and a 50-year-old man was hit on the side. Both were in critical condition.

The last victim, a 36-year-old man, was shot in the ankle and refused treatment at the scene. He later took himself to a hospital.

The director for Target Area DevCorp told reporters that the victims were not gang members, and were not the types of people to run around with guns. Even with that, this sounds gang-related on at least the gunman’s side.

All of the victims are luckily expected to survive.

Chicago has had a whopping 1,688 shootings so far this year, up from 11% last year.

A few hours before this shooting, another took place in Chicago which saw 4 women and 1 man shot by a suspect who walked up to them and opened fire.

Gang initiations?

Just a normal day in Chicago?

We’ve seen quite a few stories come out of the city that show legally armed citizens defending themselves against attacks, and more are being armed each day. Legally armed, that is. I’m not talking about ten new gangbangers popping up each day, but their numbers are likely growing as well.

The mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, has come under criticism for years over her handling -or lack of handling- the ever-growing issue of bad guns on the streets, and the obvious crisis with gang violence that’s all but taken over the city.
