Old Boyfriend With Iron Pipe Meets New Boyfriend With Handgun

OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON – A 32-year-old man who broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and threatened her current boyfriend was shot by the new guy who was armed with a handgun. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call around 12:45 a.m. reporting a break-in and shooting in the 5900 block of Cooper Estates Lane NW.

Upon arrival, the occupants told deputies that the female’s former boyfriend forced his way into the apartment, armed with an iron pipe. Once inside, he threatened her current boyfriend, who responded by arming himself with a semi-automatic pistol “which he fired at least twice, striking the suspect,” according to a sheriff’s news release.

The suspect drove away from the home before deputies arrived; however, he called 911 around 1:00 a.m. and requested medical treatment for his gunshot wounds. Deputies located him in the 5700 block of Kinney Road SW. He was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia and was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

There were also children at home in the apartment at the time of the incident, but none of the occupants were injured. The man who acted in self-defense is not expected to be charged.

The identity and condition of the suspect has not been released, nor have officials said what charges he may face following release from the hospital if he survives the gunshot wounds.
