HARTLY, DELAWARE — A stabbing victim shot the man who attacked he and four other men early Wednesday morning. Delaware State Police say that troopers were dispatched to 911 call reporting multiple stabbing victims and a shooting victim. The call came in around 4:29 a.m.  for an address in the 700 block of Proctors Purchase Road. Responding troopers secured the scene and escorted Emergency Medical Services into the home, where they found numerous people with injuries.

When investigators began sorting out the chaotic scene, they learned that several occupants were in the home watching tv and playing games. For unknown reasons, a 37-year-old Ridgely man became enraged and began attacking the others with a knife. One of the stabbing victims managed to retrieve a shotgun and shot the knife-wielding man in the leg in self-defense.

The man with the knife was transported to Bayhealth Kent General, where he was pronounced dead. Two men from Hartly, ages 30 and 56, were transported to an area hospital and admitted with life-threatening injuries sustained at the hand of the attacker.

Two men from Maryland, ages 34 and 53, were transported to an area hospital, for treatment of the injuries that they suffered in the attack. One was admitted while the other was treated and released.
