Customer Stops Armed Robbery In Progress With Concealed Firearm

LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA — An armed customer at a convenience store drive-thru noticed something off when he saw the employee inside the store. She seemed scared, and then he noticed her mouthing the words: “Call 911.”

That employee was being held a knifepoint by a man who was in the process of a robbery.

Police say Jose Davila Cruz walked into the store and asked to have a check cashed. The employee informed him that they can’t do that inside the store, and Cruz walked out, but soon came back with a knife and kicked off the events that led to an armed citizen being at the right place at the right time.

A customer who pulled up to the drive-through said the employee walked up to the window looking scared and distraught.

She mouthed to the customer to call 911. The customer reportedly saw Cruz standing behind the employee with a knife.

The customer said he pulled out his gun and yelled at Cruz to get out of the store. Once Cruz came outside, the customer was able to get him on the ground and take his knife away.

This customer made some decisions that others might not have, and before you’re in a situation like this, play through different scenarios in your head and determine the course of action you’d take. If it’s your life at stake, the answers are pretty simple. When it’s someone else, however, dynamics can change in more ways than one.

Did the customer save a life? We’ll never know. What we do know is that he saved this employee from a terrible situation, that could have had a number of very negative outcomes.
