Would-Be Thief and Intruder Ignores Warnings and Makes Threats Before Being Shot by Homeowner

GREEN, OHIO – A botched crime was not enough to keep a man from returning to a residence and ignoring the owner’s warnings, which earned him a gunshot wound to the leg before police arrived on the scene.  According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded on Mayfield Road in the City of Green.

The SCSO press release indicates that a man who was attempting to steal an all-terrain vehicle was confronted by a homeowner.  The would-be thief threatened the property owner before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, for whatever reason, the man returned to the property and attempted to enter the residence. That prompted the homeowner to confront the man a second time.  This time, he armed himself and gave the man a verbal warning, also telling the man that he had called the sheriff’s office and that deputies were on their way.

Despite the warning, the gun and the impending arrival of law enforcement, the man still approached the homeowner in a threatening manner.  The homeowner responded by discharging his firearm and wounding the man in the leg.

The injured man, with non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to the Summa Akron City Hospital by the Green Fire Department. Criminal charges are expected following the conclusion of the investigation, according to authorities.
