Fatal Early Morning Shooting Under Investigation After Man Confronts Someone Breaking Into Neighbor’s Apartment

Published

LAWTOM, OKLAHOMA — The 900 block of S.W. 3rd Street in Lawton was the scene of an early morning shooting that left one person dead.

Police were dispatched to a reported shooting around 5:45 am. Upon arrival, they found one gunshot victim who was rushed to a local hospital and later died from his injuries.

According to investigators, the homeowner heard noises in his backyard and went outside to investigate, reportedly finding someone attempting to break into another apartment on the property. The homeowner fired a single round, hitting the suspect.

The identities of the persons involved have not been released and the incident remains under investigation.

If someone is attempting to break into another home, and you decide to involve yourself, you had better be certain that the person is actually not supposed to be there. Funny things happen, like someone locks themselves out and tries breaking into their own home out of frustration.

Make sure that you have as much information as you can. Better yet, even; call the neighbors to see if they’re home, and call the police to report what’s happening. And for you, it’s usually best to stay at a distance and not get involved unless you absolutely have to.
