Business Owner Drops Burglar the Instant He Walks Into Work

YAKIMA, WA — A man was shot inside of a Yakima Farmers Insurance office late last month, YakTriNews reports.

The hapless burglar thought to break into the office mid-morning — right when people tend to be walking into work for the day. What a ridiculous time to steal all that valuable… insurance.

According to YakTriNews:

Around 8:30 a.m., police received reports of a burglary at 30 N. 2nd Street at Farmers Insurance. When they arrived, officers found a (24)-year-old man shot inside.

Investigators say the man broke into the business. Shortly after, the owner of the business got to work, opened the door and found the suspect inside. At some point, the owner shot the (man)… The owner was not harmed… Police say the man shot Monday in Yakima during a suspected burglary of an insurance business is 24-year-old Felipe Manual Samano.

He was shot in the chin and right arm, according to Yakima city spokesman Randy Beehler. Medics took Samano to the hospital. He is expected to recover.

The owner of the Farmers Insurance office is Juan Silva. He told police he shot Samano. Silva is cooperating with the investigation into his shooting. Samano has been booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree burglary and unlawful gun possession.

Although it’s difficult to piece together the events of this break-in once the owner entered the building, if the guy was booked for unlawful gun possession, there’s no question this poor guy just trying to go to work had every reason to be concerned for his safety.

For the love of all that’s good, folks — carry your defensive tool to work. There’s no excuse for not being prepared.

Stay safe out there.
