A Chicago woman took the initiative away from her attacker’s hands and placed it firmly into her own by opening fire on a man assaulting her in a luxury apartment, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
In the late morning hours, the woman, 29 and the man, 30, reportedly were engaged in an argument that the man escalated into physical violence:
The pair was arguing at 10:54 a.m. in an apartment in the 1000 block of South Clark when the man started battering the woman, according to Chicago police. The woman then opened fire, striking the attacker in the leg.

The 30-year-old man was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said. The 29-year-old woman was taken to Stroger Hospital after suffering a broken hand, bruises and lacerations.
The man, who appears to have been shot in self defense, was arrested, police said. Charges against him were pending Monday night.
We’ve said it once, twice, and two dozen times: the great equalizer we have is a firearm placed in the right hands.
Additional kudos to this woman for firing exactly enough to stop the threat, then letting the authorities take him to where he belongs. One imagines — and fervently hopes — she won’t have to think about him for a long, long time.
Responsible gun ownership and carry is the catalyst for crime obstruction and prevention, and the next time folks in Chicago start crying for more gun control, they ought to ask this lady how she feels about it.
I bet she should tell them a thing or two.
