Man Shoots Dog After Woman And Girl Are Attacked

Published

CLEVELAND, OH — An off-duty sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked a woman (its owner) and a six-year-old girl, the Associated Press reports via US News.

Police report that the 32-year-old woman was attacked by her own dog, but did not mention the reason behind the attack.

A young girl was also attacked.

Unfortunately, as often happens when man’s best friend goes rogue, no one is armed. Who wants to believe that their animals are going to turn on them?

Regardless, that was the exact situation the woman found herself in.

Fortunately for her, there was a responsibly-armed off-duty law enforcement officer nearby that wasn’t going to let the pit bull kill its owner.

The deputy shot and killed the animal.

The young girl was taken to the hospital, where she was reported to be in critical condition as of July 5.

There is no joy in reporting drastic action being needed in the defense of animals, but it teaches us two major things:

  1. Be armed. Always. Even if you have a big, scary dog to keep you safe. Who knows — you may be the one who can save someone else’s life.
  2. If you have a dog, treat it well. Sometimes attacks like these are totally avoidable with proper exercise and attention.  Taking care of your dog is absolutely a part of being a responsible citizen.
