Homeowner Starts Shootout With Armed Intruders, Successfully Defending His Family

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GEORGIA — When a pair of masked men invaded his home, one responsibly-armed citizen brought the fight right back to them.

WSBTV reports that two masked men approached the man who was asleep in bed and woke him up and threatened him, telling him to put his hands behind his back. He wasn’t having any of it.

“He had his gun between the mattress(es) and he told them that they would have to kill him before he puts his hands behind his back,” his wife, Mindy Lingerfelt, said.

She said that her husband, who was not named, pushed a dresser on them and they fled, but not without starting a shootout with the man.

There are bullet holes in the window of the room where a three-year-old child slept.

Fortunately, the child was uninjured, although both masked men made their escape. One of the suspects has been identified as Justin Pruitt, 29.

Apparently, he was a friend of the victim.

Although this was certainly a stressful situation for all involved, it’s vital to look at how much worse this could have been were the man not armed and ready to go, even when the bad guys had the drop on him.

Even so, what he did took some major guts. Kudos to him.
