LUBBOCK, TEXAS — A man armed with multiple knives was shot by the occupant of a home after he barged in unexpectedly. Multiple sources confirm that the man appeared to not be mentally competent and was described as hallucinating.
Lt. Bryan Taylor, from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed to KFYO 95.1 FM News that the man was in the midst of some medical episode where he was hallucinating. Lucky for him, his actions didn’t result in being fatally shot. The occupant shot him and wounded him and he was taken into custody. He was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Whether or not the man was in the middle of a hallucination or not doesn’t mean that a person does not have the right to defend himself. This occupant appeared to take the right course. He shot the man and once the man was neutralized, got authorities to take care of him.
That’s pretty generous… But it’s also what we’ve come to expect from the fine folks of Lubbock, Texas. As an ongoing theme for covering these news stories, I’ve taken to cataloging the sheer number of law-abiding gun-related incidents occurring in Lubbock. I’d just like to point out that despite the incidences of violent crime, the good folk of Lubbock won’t hesitate to help a neighbor out, offer a bad guy an alternative to getting shot, and pass their spouse a gun to take out a bad guy trying to rob them.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Lubbock since covering defensive gun use stories, it’s that this is the last place I’d want to try being a criminal. The gun owners of Lubbock aren’t mean, they don’t go over the line, but they definitely are on top of their game.
But you don’t have to be a Lubbock resident to defend yourself in your home, driveway, or your neighbor’s property. Every single day you can make the choice to carry concealed. Being prepared every single day means you’re able to help out those around you — especially yourself. Because when seconds matter, your concealed carry handgun is ready.
