There are some studies pushed by the media that are little more than well-funded propaganda. Then again, there are some that actually appear to have been conducted properly. Rasmussen is one of the more respected polling agencies, and they’ve had a pretty good track record for conducting polls that make sense. Their latest, taken last week, asked people one very simple and straightforward question: Would you feel safer moving to a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun or a neighborhood where you could have a gun for your own protection? The answer: not New York. And not by a small margin, either. From the results . . .
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 22% of Likely U.S. Voters would feel safer living in a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun over one where they could have a gun for their own protection. Sixty-eight percent (68%) would feel safer in a neighborhood where guns are allowed, while 10% are not sure.
There’s a rapidly declining proportion of the population who believe that strict civilian disarmament laws stop crime. The truth is that areas with strict gun control laws are often the very places where the most “gun violence” takes place. And that number is growing.
There have been a couple polls in the past few months where the results indicate that Americans believe a gun makes them safer, and that gun control laws wouldn’t stop criminals. This latest Rasmussen poll is a little on the higher side of that equation. It indicates that not only do American believe that gun ownership increases their safety and security, but also that gun owners are safe people to live around.
The stereotype of the redneck gun-owning white supremacist NRA member seems to be retreating into the rear view mirror, despite the best efforts of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex. And their willing accomplices in the media.
