Local Louisiana Restaurant Offers Discount for Carrying a Gun

With news of certain restaurants not allowing customers to bring their guns into restaurants (*cough, cough Panera*), it is always a pleasant surprise when businesses do just the opposite. As of a couple of weeks ago, Bergeron’s Restaurant in Port Allen, Louisiana is now offering a 10% discount to customers who carry a gun. Owner Kevin Cox said he began the discount by thanking law enforcement for coming into the restaurant and then he had the idea.

“I keep hearing so much about people banning guns. Target’s banning guns and these people are banning guns. Don’t they realize that that’s where people with guns are going to go? I want to take the opposite approach. How can I make my place safer?”

Bergeron’s Restaurant is known for their Cajun cooking, but will be known for more than that from now on. Olivia Carambat came to have lunch and brought along her Smith and Wesson 38. Not only do you get a good deal for a good meal, but it can make the restaurant a safer place for everyone inside.

“If somebody walked in here with a gun and wanted to hurt us. We’re not defenseless.”

Cox says that he doesn’t need to see the firearm the customer is carrying, just needs to know that they are carrying a gun. So far, the promotion has been a hit. Cox reports that they typically give out about 15 to 20 discounts for customers carrying a gun.
