LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — Authorities in southwest Louisville are on high alert as reports of a man assaulting and robbing women with a handgun are increasing. The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) said the suspect’s violence is escalating, having targeted six women to date.
Sgt. Joe Keeling informed that while not all victims were assaulted, all of them were robbed. The suspect approaches women wielding a handgun, and his modus operandi includes pistol-whipping his victims, indicating an escalating pattern in violence. One victim was sexually assaulted. The incidents predominantly occur between midnight and 5 a.m.
The assailant is described as a tall, thin Black male dressed entirely in black, with a face mask ensuring full coverage. The majority of his attacks are aimed at adult women alone in parking areas, mainly at apartment complexes, including River Breeze Apartments, Moss Creek Apartments, and Finish Line Apartments.
While some surveillance footage of the suspect exists, it is limited in clarity. However, the police have been receiving numerous leads. Some women have reported narrowly escaping him, with loud noises or running away.
One victim’s father recalled the resilience of his daughter, who was pistol-whipped, causing her to lose multiple teeth. Despite the trauma, the father remains hopeful, believing the local community will step in and aid in apprehending the suspect.
LMPD advises the public to remain vigilant, suggesting traveling in groups, parking in illuminated areas, trusting one’s instincts, minimizing distractions, and keeping hands unoccupied.
