HUMBLE, TEXAS — A woman in northeast Harris County, Texas, went through a harrowing road rage incident when a fellow driver brandished a gun at her multiple times following a honking disagreement. The situation began at a traffic light on a Tuesday morning and escalated when the man, identified as 30-year-old Kevin Roth, started following her after she honked back at him. Fearing for her safety due to the gun display, the woman drove to a public area, a Phillips 66 gas station in Humble.
CCTV footage from the gas station displayed the gravity of the situation, with Roth pursuing the woman into the convenience store and aiming his gun at her repeatedly. When she attempted to escape, he tried to take her car keys, rammed her car, and used racial slurs, prompting further fear.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived around ten minutes later, disarmed Roth, and arrested him. He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. However, Roth was released on a $25,000 bond the next day, despite having the victim’s address from their accident information exchange, a protocol dictated by state law.
The victim’s mother voiced her concerns about the event and the potential danger that Roth poses given his proximity to their residence. Their immediate focus is to help the victim regain a sense of security amidst worries of possible retaliation. Despite their distress, the family is grateful that the situation didn’t escalate further, underlining the importance of responsible gun ownership.
