SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA — A man fatally shot another man who refused to leave his property Sunday evening. SPD Major Art Littlejohn said officers responded to a call of shots fired just before 10 p.m. on Farley Avenue.
Arriving officers found several people at the residence and a male suffering from gunshot wounds lying on the front porch. Witnesses told police that the man, who appeared to be in his mid-20’s, was wearing dark clothing and a hoodie when he walked into the front yard of the home and approached the homeowners.
The man was acting “very strange” according to the witnesses and was asked several times to leave before he eventually complied. Moments later, he returned and approached the home again.
The homeowner and others present asked the man to leave the property a second time, but he refused and approached the front door with his hands in his pocket. At that point, the homeowner retrieved a firearm from inside the home. As the man reached the doorway, the homeowner fired multiple rounds hitting the man in the chest. Police found his body at the doorway where he fell.
The names of the parties involved have not been released, and no charges have been filed. The Spartanburg Police Department, the Spartanburg County Solicitor’s Office and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident. South Carolina residents are under both Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground laws.
