WASHINGTON, D.C. — A firefighter was shot while tending to a shooting victim on the afternoon of November 22nd. Another person at the scene, a woman, was also shot.
Gunfire erupted across the street from where the firefighter was.
A bullet struck a D.C. firefighter EMT who was helping the injured man, police said. A woman standing at the scene was also shot in the hand, according to police.
The firefighter suffered a graze wound to his leg, News4’s Darcy Spencer reports. He was later released from the hospital and is in good spirits, fire officials said.

Fire officials said that the firetruck at the scene was filled with bullets as a result of the shooting.
Both people shot suffered non-life threatening injuries.
There was no mention if any suspects were in custody, or if the shooting was specifically targeted at the first responders.
It’s sad to think that our heros would be targeted in such a way, but it’s a reality that they face whenever they come out to help. Giving first responders the ability to carry a firearm while on the clock is something that has been fought for, and some localities have been successful.
