I’m not shocked. Not one bit.
Today, Presidential hopeful ‘Uncle’ Joe Biden was discussing ways to better train police forces across the Country, and boy did he have some great absolutely terrible advice on how to accomplish this.
“Instead of standing there and teaching a cop, when there’s an unarmed person coming at them with a knife or something, you shoot them in the leg instead of in the heart is a very different thing. There’s a lot of different things that could change,” Biden said in a meeting with community leaders at Bethel AME Church in Wilmington, Del.
Biden, if you’re with us, we’d like to discuss a few points.
Point #1: Armed Meaning
There’s a fundamental problem with this statement: “..an unarmed person coming at them with a knife..”
A person is, by definition, armed when they have a knife. I don’t feel there’s more that needs to be discussed here. It’s very cut and dry.
Point #2: Bloody mess
Human legs house the femoral artery. This is the main artery that supplies the lower body with blood flow. A bullet wound to the artery is a life-threatening wound, as a person can bleed out in a matter of minutes.
Point #3: Training expansion
I understand that the statement wasn’t all-encompassing of your thoughts on better police training, but it shouldn’t be a main go-to when talking about the topic. Plus, if an attacker is coming at a police officer with a knife, or going after anyone for that matter, that is likely enough to justify the use of deadly force. Having to aim for the legs verses the chest is much more difficult, as the targets are much smaller and are likely moving quicker.
But what do I know. I’m not the one running for President.
