INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A mother shot and killed an intruder attempting to break into her apartment on the afternoon of June 7, WXIN reports.
As WXIN reports:
The shooting occurred around 1:10 p.m. in the 2800 block of White Knight Boulevard near East 30th Street and Mitthoeffer Road.
Police say the mother heard someone breaking into her apartment. That woman then came face to face with the armed suspect, identified as 19-year-old Michael Hawkins, before she opened fire.
Investigators say Hawkins died inside the doorway of the apartment after being shot. Neighbors say while it’s sad the suspect got killed, they don’t blame the mother for using deadly force.
Neither the mother or the children in the apartment were hurt, although I am sure they are badly shaken.
Although neighbors aren’t happy with what happened, none of them seem upset with the mother with doing what she had to do, as sometimes happens.
“I hate to see that it happened, but that’s what happens when you go into people’s home trying to take their stuff,” neighbor Julius Radcliff said according to WXIN.
Neighbor Janice Taylor added: “You have to defend yourself. We have laws for that.”
Indeed we do, Ms. Taylor.
Once again, we find evidence for the case of home carry — folks, there is no reason not to carry at home. We see the need to every day.
Wearing sweat pants — lounging around? Set it in arm’s reach.
Be ready, folks, both for your sake and your family’s.
