Concealed Carrier Who Shot Armed Robber In Chicago Store Won’t Be Charged

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — The armed citizen who shot and killed an armed robber Saturday night inside a corner store on the Southwest Side of Chicago will not be charged, police say.

Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says investigators classified the shooting as self-defense after they reviewed witness statements and surveillance videos from the store and currency exchange.

After 55-year-old Reginald Gildersleeve walked into the store in an attempt to rob the place, he pointed a handgun at an employee. That’s when an armed patron drew his own firearm and shot Gildersleeve dead.

Police say that the armed citizen has a valid concealed carry license and a valid firearm owner’s identification card.
