AUSTIN, TEXAS — Both chambers passed the new bill with little debate, and Saturday’s House approval was a 116-23 vote. The new bill will make it possible to fine governmental entities that post signs prohibiting the carrying of concealed handguns in areas where licensed Texans are allowed to carry them.
The bill will now go to Governor Abbott to be signed into law.
Local governments and other official entities would be fined if they post signs that might intimidate license-holders who are within their rights to carry weapons.
Fines of up to $1,500 are assessed for a first offense and $10,000 maximum for repeat violations.
If a sign were spotted, the Texas attorney general’s office would investigate any received complaints. If they were found to be in violation, they would have 15 days to remove the signs before being fined.
Once again, Texas shows us the way.
