Concealed Carrier Shot While Trying To Defend Against Armed Carjacker At Gas Station

A man was injured during a late-night shootout at a Hickory Hill gas station in Memphis after an attempted carjacking. The car owner defended himself by firing multiple shots at the suspect.

MEMPHIS, TN (2-minute read) — A man sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a shootout during an attempted carjacking at a Hickory Hill gas station late Sunday night, according to Memphis Police.

The incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. when the man went inside the BP gas station near East Shelby Drive and Hickory Hill Road to grab some food. As he returned to his Dodge Charger, an armed suspect approached him, demanding the keys and the vehicle.

In a swift act of self-defense, the car owner drew his firearm from his hip and fired up to six shots at the assailant. The man reported to police that he believes one of his shots struck the suspect in the face. In response, the suspect reportedly fired as many as 25 shots at the car owner.

Despite the intense exchange of gunfire, the car owner managed to re-enter his vehicle and drive away from the scene. Shortly thereafter, he flagged down an officer after being involved in a car crash. It was at this point that authorities discovered he had been shot in the buttocks. He was then transported to a hospital for treatment of his non-critical injuries.

Police reported finding 13 spent shell casings and three shattered windows at the gas station. Surveillance footage revealed that two men arrived in an older model, four-door Chevy Impala just before the shooting began.

This incident highlights the importance of self-defense and concealed carry. It also underscores the need for situational awareness and the ability to respond effectively under pressure.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings and have a plan for self-defense. If you carry a firearm, ensure you are trained in its use and understand local laws regarding self-defense.
