CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NEW JERSEY — In Cumberland County, New Jersey, Silvestre Marroquin, 31, was fatally shot after allegedly breaking into a house on Old Deerfield Pike. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday. Kevin Lucero, 24, an occupant of the residence, admitted to police he shot Marroquin during a forced entry by two intruders. Lucero was arrested on unrelated gun charges but not charged with Marroquin’s death.
Marroquin suffered a torso gunshot wound and was found in a hallway outside a bedroom. Despite receiving immediate aid from police and EMTs, he succumbed to his injuries. The second suspect fled the scene and is still at large.
At the crime scene, a handgun near Marroquin’s body and an unserialized “ghost gun” on a kitchen counter were discovered. Additional searches led to the seizure of another ghost gun, a knife, a cellphone, and cash from the property.
Police found $21,000 and an unspecified controlled substance in Lucero’s bedroom. He faces charges for possessing two ghost guns and is currently in jail, awaiting a court hearing. The ongoing investigation is conducted by the New Jersey State Police, and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office encourages anyone with information to provide an anonymous tip on their website.
