Justice Thomas’ Push For Review Declined: NY Gun Laws Remains Unchallenged

Published

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to entertain a new challenge against New York’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act, a gun safety law effective since September of the prior year. The law fortifies the carry permit criteria and bans firearms in specified sensitive areas.

Critics deemed it unconstitutional and criticized its background check requirement for ammunition purchases. Justice Clarence Thomas had earlier advocated for reviewing this act.

Expressing satisfaction over the decision, New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that public safety remained her utmost priority. She emphasized her commitment to collaborating with law enforcement and state leaders to ensure a secure environment. It’s worth noting that following the Supreme Court’s 2020 Bruen decision, New York and several other states had portions of their gun laws annulled.
