Woman Has Negligent Discharge In Mall Food Court While Reaching Into Purse

BRANDON, FLORIDA — Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported a possible shooting incident at Brandon Town Center Mall on Saturday around 3:24 p.m. Surveillance footage revealed a woman negligently discharging a firearm from her purse in the food court.

The footage showed the woman leaning over while picking up food, and reaching into her purse when the gun was discharged.

Although she and three others left the scene, no one was found injured. The woman was later identified, but no charges were made. The mall shut down for the rest of the day.

“Every day, our deputies put their lives on the line to protect our communities and today was no different,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Our agency’s dedication and swift response to this incident demonstrates our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens.”

Having a proper holster to secure your firearm, including covering the trigger guard completely, is an essential part of carrying a firearm. If you do carry inside a purse, having a dedicated spot inside the purse, separate from other sections, can be a wise decision. Additionally, get that firearm in a holster meant for purse carry.
