Why We Carry: Woman Shoots At Gas Station Owner, Turns Gun On Self

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FLORIDA — A woman in her 30s trespassed at the Smart Fill gas station on Pine Forest Road in Escambia County on Monday morning and behaved erratically, leading to a shooting incident. The gas station owner tried to remove the woman from the property, at which point she fired three shots at him before fleeing the scene.

Escambia County deputies were called to the scene around 9 a.m. and soon found the woman running along the median of Pine Forest Road. As the deputies approached and attempted to make contact, she continued walking and then suddenly began running. Shortly after, she shot herself in the head.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and no one else was injured. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons reported the details of the encounter with the woman before she harmed herself. The reason for her shooting at the gas station owner and whether her self-inflicted injury was intentional are still under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity or any information about a possible motive for the events.
