The victims fatally injured in the shooting were a young woman, 18, and a man, 20. As of Sunday afternoon, nine individuals were still receiving hospital treatment, with some in critical condition. The ages of those wounded spanned from 13 to 32.
Police, who have yet to establish a motive, are in pursuit of multiple suspects and are appealing to the public for assistance in the investigation. The scale of the incident is unprecedented, even for Baltimore, a city known for its high crime rate. It is potentially the city’s worst single act of gun violence in terms of victim count since at least 2014.
The shooting, described by local resident Terry Brown as “chaos,” resulted in panic as parents sought their children amidst the commotion. Baltimore’s Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the incident as a “reckless, cowardly act,” vowing justice for those affected and a determined pursuit of those responsible.
