Why We Carry: Felon Shoots And Kills Mother Of His Child

Published

WILLISTON, FLORIDA — The search for the alleged gunman in a fatal shooting at Monterey Boats, a boat factory in Williston, concluded recently. The incident, which took place early Monday morning, led to the tragic death of a mother with two children.

Williston Police reported that the shooting unfolded around 5 a.m. at the North Main Street premises. Factory employees promptly alerted emergency services when a woman was discovered shot.

Despite the efforts of EMS teams, the woman could not be saved.

Police Chief Mike Rolls identified the suspect as Jonathon Segar, a 31-year-old man who reportedly shares a child with the victim, and were once in a relationship. As Segar had no known address, law enforcement was initially tasked with gathering more information about him to facilitate his capture.

Authorities disclosed that Segar was believed to have left the county following the incident, and they had sufficient grounds to apprehend him on charges of premeditated first-degree murder and illegal firearm possession as a former felon.

In a reassuring update posted on Facebook Monday evening, the Williston Police Department confirmed that, with the help of other agencies, they had located the suspect. The post assured the public and the victim’s family that Segar no longer posed a threat.
