JASPER COUNTY, TEXAS — Nine people were shot at an after-prom party near Jasper, Texas, early Sunday morning, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Police say that the nine individuals’ gunshot wounds were not life-threatening.
The shooting occurred shortly after midnight, where the sheriff’s office responded to reports of shots being fired north of Jasper, approximately 30 miles west of the Texas-Louisiana border. The incident took place at a residence where a after-prom party was held. The victims were said to be between 15 and 19 years of age, according to Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman.
The majority of the victims were transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, while one victim was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont for further treatment. One of the victims had to undergo surgery for a gunshot wound to the arm, according to authorities.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the incident, and they believe that a second shooting in Jasper may be linked to the party shooting. However, as of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and police are still questioning multiple persons of interest.
