DEKALB COUNTY, GEORGIA — An attempted break-in at a DeKalb County residence resulted in the intruder’s death after the homeowner shot him, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Peachcrest Road, and the homeowner used a shotgun to defend his property, according to WSB-TV.

While some neighbors were shocked by the event, others, such as Sandy Mize, mentioned that shootings were not uncommon in the area.

The intruder’s identity and possible connection to the homeowner remain undisclosed, and it is unclear if the intruder was armed.

A group of women from the Salvation Army visited the home to offer prayers and assistance to the affected family.

Meanwhile, neighbors expressed uncertainty about whether the homeowner, who lives with his girlfriend, had been specifically targeted or if the crime was random.

The homeowner is not expected to face charges for defending himself and his property, as one neighbor remarked, “In this case, somebody having a gun was a good thing.”
