Father Allegedly Shoots Knife-Wielding Son, Police Make Self-Defense Determination In South Carolina Shooting

JENKINSVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA — A man is dead and another was left with a knife cut after an altercation between a father and son in Jenkinsville, South Carolina.

The incident occurred on November 23rd at a residence on St. Barnabas Church Road, according to The Voice of Blythewood & Fairfield County. The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man being threatened by his son with a knife at that location.

During the altercation, the man was allegedly cut by his son. The son was shot in the altercation.

Arriving deputies found the father on the porch and the son in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. The son, later identified as 29-year-old Horace Lyles Richards, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fairfield County Sheriff’s officials believe the shooting to be an act of self-defense.
