New Jersey Bans .50 Caliber Firearms And Much More In Their Reaction To The Recent Mass Shooting In Illinois

Published

“They are common sense, they are smart, they live up to our Jersey values,” New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said during the signing of the new legislation.

As we’ve seen time and time again, a state’s legislatures are passing gun control measures in the wake of a mass shooting, none of which would have prevented the latest mass shooting.

The new laws will mandate firearm training for people seeking gun permits, ban .50 caliber weapons, require new New Jersey residents to register their firearms, regulate the sale of handgun ammunition and create a database of sales, require firearm retailers to sell microstamping-enabled firearms, upgrade certain gun manufacturing crimes to second-degree, and allow the state Attorney General to sue gun manufacturers.

Banning .50 caliber firearms is completely useless, and is just a stepping stone to ban further calibers in the future.

With the recent mass shooting in Illinois, the suspect would have still completed his rampage even if similar laws were on the books, and you’re kidding yourself if you believe otherwise.

Mental illness, the breakdown of the American Family, and not paying attention to what people are doing close to us are going to be far better places to spend energy and time in correcting the violence that we’ve been seeing.
