75-Year-Old Woman Arrested After She Claims To Have Shot Someone After She Was Maced And Assaulted

COLUMBUS, OHIO — A 75-year-old Columbus woman, identified as Peggy Howard, has been charged with felony assault after police say she fired her gun at two people who she told police had maced and assaulted her. The incident happened just after 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Police said officers responded to the location following a ShotSpotter alert. About two hours later, at approximately 9:17 p.m., police said Howard reported that she fired gunshots at people who maced and jumped her.

Officers responded to Howard’s call and found a woman and her 12-year-old son who had been grazed by the gunfire. The child was treated at the scene and released.

I don’t quite understand the time between the shooting and when Howard called police. That should be done immediately if this was indeed a self-defensive shooting. Additionally, I don’t understand why the woman and her son weren’t at a hospital for treatment and seemingly didn’t call police themselves, instead waiting two hours for them to arrive after Howard had called.

Once police arrived, the woman and her son positively identified Howard as the person who had fired the shots. Police did not make public whether or not Howard acted in self-defense, or if she was attacked.
