Woman Shoots Through Wall At Man Looking Into Her Bedroom Window

MEREDITH, TEXAS — A woman fired her rifle at a man who was peeking into her bedroom window, according to police.

The unidentified woman shot through a wall multiple times and struck the suspect as he stood outside her home in Houston around 11 p.m. Friday, Houston Police Lt. Ronnie Wilkins told reporters.

The man was shot in the torso and staggered a short distance from the home, where he collapsed and died.

No charges have been announced against the woman, and being that this happened in Texas, it’s unlikely that she will be facing any.

It does bring up an interesting discussion, however, because we have two aspects here that are being debated around this story.

The first; the woman shot through a wall. This is a general no-no, because there is no absolute way to say that you’re certain as to what and who is on the other side of that wall. It’s a blanket statement, and one of the rules of gun safety, so it pertains to this story as well.

The second; if the perceived threat is outside of your home, get armed and call police. If they try to make entry, then all bets are off. This argument can be critical based on your state and the laws surrounding self-defense while at your home, and boy do they vary from state to state.

All that I can end with is this: Shooting through walls and doors is dangerous business, and can turn into a worst nightmare for the person pulling the trigger. Additionally, there are many things to consider regarding the person outside, from dementia to other mental health issues. I don’t know the particulars with this case or how the man was acting, but having as clear of a picture is always of benefit.

Of course it doesn’t always work out that way, and luckily this woman wasn’t injured during this scary encounter.

Just some things to think about, and feel free to keep the discussion going in the comments below.
