85-Year-Old Homeowner Shoots Man To Defend Family During Evening Home Invasion

CATHEDRAL CITY, CALIFORNIA — An 85-year-old man grabbed his gun and fired a single shot at a man who police say had broken into his house Sunday evening. The homeowners, who luckily were not hurt during the incident, did not know the intruder.

The shooting occurred about 6:15 p.m. Sunday in the 38200 block of Chuperosa Lane, according to Cathedral City police Sgt. Albert Ruiz. Patrol officers responded to the house following a 911 call reporting a male intruder had entered the home and threatened the residents, he said.

The suspect allegedly threatened the lives of the homeowners, and that’s when the elderly man sprung into action. The suspect was hit once in the upper body and was taken to the hospital. He remains in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

If you break into someone’s home, your odds of survival can decrease rapidly. Many believe that residents of California aren’t armed because it’s a not-so-gun-friendly state, but that’s far from the truth. Just like New York, the bulk of gun control comes from the very populated cities, while the rest of the state is very much pro 2nd Amendment.
