Homeowner Wounded, Suspect Fatally Shot In Head By Homeowner’s Son During Home Invasion

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA – A homeowner was shot in the leg and a suspect was fatally shot in the head during a home invasion in Chesterfield County Friday morning.

Officials say that the incident happened at a home off Highway 207, when two masked men entered a home.  One of the men shot the homeowner in the leg, and the wounded man then got into a scuffle with the other intruder.  During the fight, the homeowner’s son appeared armed with a shotgun and shot the man who was fighting his father in the head.

The suspect who allegedly fired the first shot fled the scene in a small white car traveling towards North Carolina. Deputies with the Union County (NC) Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search for the suspect vehicle.

The masked man who was shot in the head, identified only as a 17-year-old male, was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, NC with life-threatening injuries that later claimed his life.

Officials arrested Noah Daniels, 21, who will be charged with burglary in the first degree, two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Officials say Austin Lee Drake, 23, will face the same charges when he is located. Deputies say Drake tried to rob the same house back in Dec. 2020 and was out on bond for that incident at the time of this crime.

Daniels, Drake, and the 17-year-old male suspect who died were all involved in the home invasion. Officials did not say whether Daniels and Drake was suspected of being the intruder who fired the initial gunshot during the incident.

An unidentified 17-year-old female was also arrested and is facing charges of accessory after the fact. The investigation, and the hunt for Drake, is continuing.
