Walmart Removes Guns & Ammo From Shelves In Response To Civil Unrest In Philadelphia This Week

Published

I’m not sure where Walmart has been all year…

In response to riots in Philadelphia this week, Walmart said that it removed all firearms and ammunition from it’s shelves, so that they aren’t stolen if people end up breaking in and looting.

A spokesperson released the following statement regarding the move:

“It’s important to note that we only sell firearms in approximately half of our stores, primarily where there are large concentrations of hunters, sportsmen, and sportswomen. We have seen some isolated civil unrest and as we have done on several occasions over the last few years, we have moved our firearms and ammunition off the sales floor as a precaution for the safety of our associates and customers. These items do remain available for purchase by customers.”

I’ll assume that this only applies to locations in the immediate areas of trouble, though it isn’t completely clear.

I happened to be in Walmart yesterday, my first time in a long time. I was surprised to even see ammunition on the shelves, because I was under the impression that they were ceasing ammo sales across the board. That doesn’t seem to be the case.

When the election hits next week, or whenever we find out who won *cough* January *cough*, I imagine that this policy could expand to all locations, and not just at Walmart. We could be in for a bumpy ride, regardless of who ends up taking The White House.
