CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — It’s a tough world when you can’t trust many people, and a simple accident on the road can lead to terrible outcomes.
A man was driving down the highway at night when another vehicle bumped into him. Pulling over to survey the damage, the armed driver didn’t know that the entire thing was a setup to a carjacking attempt.
As soon as he got out of his vehicle, he was met with numerous armed men.
Shots were exchanged between the armed citizen and the thugs. The armed citizen was shot multiple times in the chest, and the thugs took off and have so far been able to evade capture.
The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in serious condition, police said. Troopers later said he was alert and talking and is expected to be OK.

His vehicle was found just four miles away, after being driven by the person who shot him.
It’s a scheme that’s been around for a while, and it’s not always easy to figure out if you’ve been a target until it’s too late. Especially at night, it’s best to try and get a view of the person who was involved in the accident with you, and get a call in to 911 as early as possible.
If you need to exit your vehicle, do so with caution. Keep an eye on the other vehicle’s occupants, so that you can have a heads up if things are going south.
