Gunman Shot By Armed Bystander During Back To School Event Promoting Peace In Florida

TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA — A back to school event was taking place in a park Saturday afternoon when a fist fight broke out between at least two people. One of those involved in the fistfight left, only to return with a gun.

When he began firing, which can be heard in the video below, an armed bystander shot the suspect and successfully ended the incident. That suspect sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The armed bystander is a concealed carry permit holder, and was fully cooperating with police when they arrived.

“We are extremely grateful that nobody else was injured in this incident,” said Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson. “This suspect opened fire at a crowded public park, this could have been so much worse.”

The event taking place was called Peace In The City, and was organized to raise awareness of violence in the area and to give families a fun afternoon before school kicks off in the coming weeks.

No charges are expected against the man who shot the suspect, as he was clearly acting in self-defense. The suspect was shot once in the head.

The children in the video scrambled to get to safety once everyone had realized what was going on. Many believed that firecrackers were being set off, but soon understood that someone was firing a handgun.

Luckily, Florida has many law-abiding concealed carriers who are ready to defend themselves. And in this case, ready to defend others as well.
