When you think of the word ‘hero’, you often think of someone who went out of their way to save others without thinking of their own safety. When you think of the word ‘bravery’, you imagine a person facing danger head-on with all they have. They’re the ones who run toward danger and not away from it.

This is Chris Mintz, the college student and veteran who met face-to-face with evil during the Oregon college shooting on Thursday.

During the attack, Mintz did what he felt was necessary to try and stop the gunman. His family told reporters that he rushed the gunman. He tried to block the door to prevent the gunman from getting into the classroom, but he was shot three times. When Mintz landed on the floor, the gunman shot him two more times.

Right before being shot the last two times, Mintz told the gunman that today was his son’s 6th birthday. The gunman didn’t care and pulled the trigger.

Since then, Mintz has been in the hospital recovering. He is expected to make a full recovery, but the road will be a long one.

A GoFundMe page was set up by one of his family members just one day ago, and the total raised so far is over $600,000 and counting.

This is community working together on a global scale.
