CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — With crime and gangs running rampant in Chicago, it’s refreshing to see the law-abiding taking control every now and then.
The military member and three others were leaving a party when one of them noticed a cup of alcohol on top of her car. She then asked the attendees next door if they knew who it belonged to, and removed it from her car.
When she removed it, Denzel A. Mickiel approached her, shouting obscenities and threatening her and her friends, according to Hain and court records.
Mickiel, 22, went into the residence, returned with a gun and began firing at the group, she said.
At this point, the military member drew his firearm and took cover near the vehicle’s front fender. He fired two shots at Mickiel, hitting him both times.
One of the victims, a 22-year-old woman, was injured by Mickiel during the shooting. She was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
The four were able to get away in a vehicle as two other unidentified people began shooting at them as well.
Mickiel is in critical condition and was ordered held on $950,000 bail. He is charged with attempted murder.
