A pair of Democrats in Alabama are looking to make criminals out of legally armed citizens if they try to carry their firearms while at church.
Two Democratic members of the Alabama House of Representatives are sponsoring a bill to make it illegal to carry a gun in a church without permission, even if you have a permit to carry a concealed gun.
Reps. Thomas Jackson of Thomasville is the sponsor and Rep. Darrio Melton of Selma is the co-sponsor of House Bill 3.
Jackson said people should not have to worry about someone carrying a gun while they’re in a place of worship.
I’m not sure why Jackson thinks that people would be worrying about other people carrying guns in church. After all, each of us encounters people carrying firearms on a daily basis and we never even know it. If Jackson is referring to this ‘worrying’ as a potential mass shooting, then he is confusing the legal gun owner with a criminal.
The only other worry that would come from others would be a negligent discharge, and we don’t see that happening in church. What the other side fails to realize to this day is that the law abiding gun owners are generally the responsible ones.
With Democrats holding just 33 out of 105 seats, it’s likely to be dead in the water.
