[WHY I CARRY] Caught On Camera; NYPD Officer Attacked With Hatchet, Suspect Shot Dead

In an unprovoked attack today in Queens, two NYPD officers were victims of a hatchet-wielding man who came out of nowhere and began his attack. Police are looking into the possibility of this being a copycat crime to the shooting yesterday in Canada.

Other officers were there during the attack and opened fire on the suspect as he went to swing his hatchet for a third time. He first hit one officer in the arm and then a different officer in the head. During the third swing, he was shot and killed by the other officers.

No motive is known at this time.

According to NBC News, the officer struck in the head suffered a fractured skull and was taken into surgery. The other officer had sustained injuries to his arm during the attack. The identity if the suspect is currently unknown.

Luckily, people with proper force were there to end the attack. If a firearm(s) had not been presented, the attack would have certainly continued and the damage would have been much greater.

This man was obviously mentally unstable, yet still found a way to unleash his rage. This is why we cannot blame guns for crimes such as this when they are used, and it’s another reason why I carry. This man, or another like him, could do the same to anyone who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If I’m ever in the wrong place at the wrong time, I want my firearm to be there with me.
