Authorities reported finding another man at the scene, who was later identified as the homeowner. After being questioned by police, he was released from custody. According to the homeowner, Gomez was behaving erratically, prompting him to act in self-defense.
The Douglas County Attorney’s Office has indicated that the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary evidence suggests the shooting was justified as self-defense. Consequently, no charges have been filed against the homeowner at this time.
Neighbor Rosanne Pickering mentioned that the homeowner often rented out rooms in his house, but Gomez was no longer supposed to be staying there. She recalled a conversation where the homeowner expressed fear, noting that Gomez had recently been released from jail and was refusing to leave the premises.
Court records reveal that Nicholas Gomez had a history of violent behavior, including multiple assault convictions. One notable incident in 2016 involved him assaulting a police officer in Adams County by throwing a chair, spraying Febreze, and lunging at the officer. More recently, Gomez served a 100-day jail sentence for violating his probation.
