A man who has been renting a home from his aunt for over a year called police to report a home robbery. He returned to the home in the morning and noticed that it had been broken into. Before entering, he called police because he was unsure if the robber was still inside.
When police arrived, they checked the home and did not find anyone inside. However, there were numerous items stolen, including a $2,700 AR-15 rifle which was sitting in a closet. It doesn’t appear to have been locked up, or even hidden for that matter.

The resident noted that while he rents the home, he rarely stays in the home. Even more reason he should have given his firearms better hiding spots.
A shotgun, which was originally behind the office door, was found on the resident’s bed. Apparently, the robber either lost interest in it or didn’t have enough room for both firearms.
It’s a tricky time when a home is invaded and items are stolen, especially firearms. As the owner, you are responsible for the whereabouts of your firearms. If they are ever stolen, as in this case, it’s extremely important to notify police as soon as you become aware that it’s missing.
There are numerous accounts of stolen firearms being used in crimes, and I wouldn’t want one of mine to be in an evidence locker one day.
