MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA — A 53-year-old woman is claiming self-defense after police say she shot and killed an intruder who had broken into her detached garage. The incident happened on February 22nd, and the homeowner told police she fired several warning shots and then shot the suspect after he continued to advance on her.
She told police she fired warning shots into the air with her handgun, but the suspect moved towards her and reached for his waistband, at which time she produced a rifle and shot him.
That suspect, who died as a result, was identified as 30-year-old Martin Lee Johnson.
“Police can’t do it all themselves. That’s why we look out for each other. Our eyes and ears is for the community. That’s what it’s about nowadays,” a neighbor told reporters.
The case is being reviewed to determine if the woman will be facing any charges. The home is said to have multiple security cameras on property, including in the area where the shooting took place.
