2 Dead, 14 Injured In Rochester NY Shooting That Happened Overnight

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK — Two people were killed and another 14 injured when shots rang out at a party that was going on well into the night. The gathering of around 100 people, illegal in NY in a time of coronavirus,

As many as 100 people were at the gathering when the shooting started just before 12:30 a.m., Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons told reporters. It happened near the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on the City of Rochester’s northeast side, close to North Goodman Street.

The two people killed have not been identified at this time, but Interim Rochester Police Chief Mark Simmons said one was a man, one a woman, both in the age range of 18 to 22.

“This is truly a tragedy if you ask me, 16 victims is unheard of,” Simmons said.

The other 14 people were all hospitalized; nine at Strong Memorial Hospital, and five at Rochester General Hospital for their injuries. Officials say the injuries sustained are not life threatening. The interim police chief said no officers were injured.

Police believe that a backyard party was the hang-out spot, and something possibly went wrong between people attending.

So far, no arrests have been made and the motive behind the shootings is unknown.

With the number of people in attendance, police hopefully have a good chance at finding out additional information in order to bring the person or persons responsible to justice.
