ELSBERRY, MO — A man likely saved his own life after shooting a passenger in his car who stabbed him in the neck, according to police.
It is unclear what the relationship is between the three people who were inside the vehicle, but we do know that after a passenger threatened the live of the driver, that driver took action to defend himself.
The sheriff’s office said three people were in a car driving along Highway W just west of Elsberry on July 28. Around 9 p.m. the car stopped and the two passengers got out.
Law enforcement said when the driver tried to get out of the car, one of the passengers allegedly stabbed the driver in the back of the neck. Deputies said the driver then grabbed a gun and fired one shot at the passenger who stabbed him.

Police identified 54-year-old Stephen Johnson as the man who stabbed the driver, and he died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.
The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Regardless of the relationship between the driver and passenger, always being prepared to defend oneself is an important thing for everyday life. This man was prepared to do just that, and didn’t hesitate when his life was at risk of being ended.
