I recently got a new safe from Liberty Safes (review coming!) and with that, I cleaned out the old safe and went through everything related to firearms that I had. I was surprised to find just how much ammo was packed away, but it wasn’t as organized as I would like.
Historically, I’ve used what you see in the photo below to store ammo. It kept everything organized, they were relatively inexpensive, and you could stack them.
I’m not saying they’re bad, but I wanted something that would be organized in a different fashion.
I searched high and low and wanted to try out some ammo cans, and I came upon these while browsing Amazon.
The reviews were great, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
They’re stackable, and each can is removable. They have very secure closures on each can, and you can tell that they seal tight.
I started to get my ammo together to see what was there. I organized it the following way:
- 9mm FMJ New
- 9mm FMJ Reman
- 9mm JHP
- 40 S&W FMJ New
- 40 S&W FMJ Reman
- 40 S&W JHP
That’s a start, with a long way to go.
I have other ammo which is strictly used for self-defense, and I keep those in their original boxes from Underwood Ammo. With the different grains and ratings, I want to make sure I know what’s what.
I cleared up a lot of room with the unmatched boxes, and things seem to be getting a little more organized. It’ll be nice to grab a can of 9mm FMJ and take it to the range verses digging around to see what I should bring.
These cans are going to do the job, I’m sure. They seem well-built, but only time will tell if they will hold together. Nothing that I see tells me they won’t, so it’s looking positive so far.
